History
In early Chinese dynasties, when stones and arrows were the only implements of war, many soldiers wounded on the battlefield reported, that symptoms of disease that had plagued them for years had suddenly vanished. Naturally, such strange occurrences baffled the physicians, who could find no logical relationship between the trauma and the ensuing recovery of health. After years of meticulous observation, ancient Chinese physicians developed ways of curing certain illnesses by striking or piercing specific points on the surface of the body. This was the beginning of acupressure.
Like Chinese soldiers, people through the ages have found the most effective ways to help themselves by trial and error. The art and science of acupressure and acupuncture was practiced by the contributions of people whose awareness was so highly developed that they could feel where the bodies of people in pain were constricted and sense which trigger points would alleviate the problem.
How does acupressure work?
Acupressure is part of the traditional Chinese medicine bodywork techniques and the science of applying light pressure on certain areas or points on the body that correspond to various organs and muscles.
The science is based on the belief that the entire body is made up of vital energy called ‘Chi’ or ‘Qi’ that flows through the body along invisible lines or ‘meridians’. There are 14 main meridian lines, each of which corresponds to an individual organ of the body. When the vital energies are able to flow through the meridians in a balanced and even way, the result is good health. When you experience pain or illness it is an indication that there is a block or leak in the energy flow within your body. This is where acupressure can help. It not only unblocks those areas but also helps the body to function optimally.
The goal of acupressure is to find the points that will produce the healing response for the conditions we want to fix. Through repetitive acupressure treatments, the body learns a new and effective way to activate the healing response on its own and increases the power to heal itself without any outside intervention.
What benefits can you expect from acupressure?
Acupressure relieves pain.
Acupressure is a great way to relieve pain. When pressure is applied to the point that corresponds to the area of the body that is aching (like in the case of a headache), the body responds by releasing the blockages in that area, helping with pain relief. Another reason why it helps is that by applying pressure to a corresponding point, the blood circulation to the area increases, helping in pain relief.
Low back pain for instance is a common health problem worldwide. A study published online by the British Medical Journal found that by applying pressure with the thumbs or fingertips to the same points on the body stimulated in acupuncture is more effective in reducing low back pain than physical therapy.
Acupressure supports faster healing.
Due to its very nature, acupressure is known to release muscular tension, promote circulation of blood, and enhance the body’s life force energy to aid healing. So if you are suffering from an illness, using acupuncture can help you heal faster.
Acupressure reduces stress.
According to the beliefs of Chinese Medicine, having all your meridians unblocked helps make you feel calmer as your body will be more capable of handling stress and your mind will be more focused.
Acupressure improves your sex life.
The imbalance of ‘qi’ energy within the organ system causes a lagging libido. This energy also maintains the health of the kidney and heart. With acupuncture these systems are maintained in proper working order helping your sex life immensely.
Acupressure tones facial muscles.
Also known as cosmetic acupressure, this process helps tone the muscles of the face, stimulate the blood flow and helps in the production of collagen. All these actions put together help tone your face and beat the signs of ageing.
Acupressure releases muscular tension.
Acupressure helps relieve tension from muscles by stimulating the action of nerves feeding the muscles. It also helps bring down stress levels and relaxes the entire body helping in the release of tension.
Acupressure promotes proper circulation of blood.
When used properly, acupressure helps in promoting the circulation of blood. When you apply pressure to certain points it helps in activating and opening up the flow of blood in the blood vessels present below the skin. This increase in blood flow helps almost all organs in the body to regenerate and perform optimally.
Acupressure reduces the need for OTC drugs.
Acupressure has been known for centuries as the best remedy for common ailments like a headache, sinusitis and cold. The practice helps relieve pain and has been found useful especially to treat headaches – drastically reducing your dependence on over-the-counter drugs.

- Nausea/sickness
- Headache/Migraine
- Nasal congestion
- Anxiety/ depression
- Fatigue
- Pain relief

Testimonials
One morning I woke up and felt I could hardly move. Things got better in the day. I researched my problem and the only thing that resembled what I felt was rheumatoid arthritis, so I went to see my GP. He gave me a course of anti inflammatories and 6 week later things had not improved so …… I went to see Jack (with full knowledge and backing of my GP). Well, the result was fantastic, within 4-5 weeks I was WELL again, I could move freely! On another occasion, following a fall, my shoulder pains were also sorted out ! My first port of call now, for ANY problems for me and my family, are JACK and PAIGE ! Thank you both.
— Caterina, Birmingham
I started acupuncture and acupressure treatments with Jack and Paige after a long search. I had tried everything under the sun; physiotherapy, sport massages, chiropractors, aroma massage therapy….. But Jack has a very gentle and holistic approach. He knew exactly what was causing my lower back pain and he knew where the problematic ligament damage was. As my job requires me to stand all day while l am teaching, l find Jack’s massages very relaxing and effective after a long week. I recommend him to everything who is suffering from any physical pain, especially chronic lower back pain.
